I volunteered to help during last year’s Gloucester beer festival. Although I could have chosen to only help for one or two shifts during the festival, I decided to participate in the build-up and take-down also. I did not need any set skills, as training and advice was readily available, and I found the experience hard work but extremely satisfying. The general atmosphere during the festival was relaxed and good humoured and being relatively new to CAMRA, the camaraderie with other volunteers has resulted in lasting friendships. Simon Backhouse
The festival is organised and staffed entirely by volunteers – Note: You must be a CAMRA member to volunteer. Are you willing to help? No experience necessary! Can you spare three or four hours (longer if you like)?
You will be asked to undertake or share one of the following tasks
Door Staff take the cash, hand out souvenir glasses, programmes, beer tokens and welcome our visitors.
Bar staff pour the ales / cider, take the tokens. Please note: This is the most popular volunteering option and while we endeavour to be flexible with our scheduling we cannot guarantee that everyone that picks this option will get to serve behind the bar.
Stewards offer help and advice where needed.
Food/Cheese & Bread Server we are particularly looking for a couple of people who hold current Food Hygiene Certificates; so if you do and want to help out, get in touch!
You will receive
Two pints in beer tokens for every four hour worked. Free staff souvenir t-shirt when two or more shifts worked.
Free food tokens when two or more consecutive shifts worked.
Help with transport home within a 10 mile radius of Blackfriars if working the last shift on Friday or Saturday
Please note ALL shifts are for 4 hours.
